Badette creates fine jewellery and objects designed by Aleyna Badat. Her work brings together a background in fine art, an interest in the history of ornament, and a close study of materials. Colour, sculptural form, and carefully considered detail give the pieces their character, with a sense of play that runs throughout.
Aleyna began in fine art before studying Jewellery Design at Central Saint Martins in London. Drawing and sculpture continue to shape her work, from the first sketch to experiments with volume and proportion. Her graduate collection, Women: Unlaced, won the UK National Association of Jewellers’ Bright Young Gems Award in 2022. She also received a Cartier Portfolio Award in 2020, awarded by the Duke of Wellington, Nathalie Verdeille, and Laurent Feniou.
She spent two years at the Louis Vuitton headquarters in Paris, working with the Women’s Fashion Jewellery and Accessories team on pieces across several collections. This experience developed her understanding of product development, from translating a design into three dimensions to refining its construction, materials, and finishing.
Her interest in gemmology and material science took her to the Gemological Institute of America in London, where she completed the Graduate Colored Stones diploma. She is fascinated by what gives a gemstone its colour and how it plays with light. Across jewellery and objects, understanding the materials is part of the pleasure of designing with them, and discovering what else they might do.
With Badette, these interests meet a love of history and an appetite for the unexpected. References from the past take on new proportions and colours, becoming pieces with a personality of their own. They invite a closer look, then a place in your life.
Fine jewellery worn against sun-warmed skin, catching the light over dinner, or accompanying a night of dancing. Objects taken to the beach, slipped into an evening bag, or kept on a dressing table among the things you reach for every day. Badette imagines a life in which beautiful things are enjoyed often. Getting ready is part of the fun.
